Simple Pages in a Flash for a Multi Scrap Page Event

Today I want to share the idea of using simple layouts to help you deal with a multi-page scrapping event.  As part of my 50th birthday celebration last year we went to the Aiken Spring Steeplechase on my actual birthday.  After the Steeplechase we had friends over for a party picnic/party with games.  It was a wonderful birthday!  But scrapping the day took many pages.  I had the elements of the Steeplechase as well as outdoor and inside photos from the evening.   I had previously scrapped four pages of of the evening party, but I had not yet attempted to scrap the Steeplechase.

I began by dividing the photos and memorabilia into categories:  Intro, family and friends, carriage parade, and Steeplechasing.  I combined the memorabilia with two photobooth looking photo strips and a photo of a single horse and rider.  I used two coordinating pieces of black and white print cardstock, white cardstock matting, and a white pen for doodling and created the first two pages.

Above, I had saved an extra copy of the invitations we sent to family and friends to join us at the Steeplechase, matted it on white cardstock, and combined with the photo strips to create an intro page.

Page two includes my admission badge from the event, the actual event program, a single rider photo, and bit of ribbon and a cardstock sticker.  Easy peasy yet nice looking.  The print cardstock was a great touch.

Pages three and four contain five of my favorite photos from the many taken during the carriage parade.  HINT:  Do not feel like you MUST use every photo.  You can select photos to represent the event/location (I chose my favorite of the Grand Canyon too, and did not scrap all 70+ photos).  The largest of the photos is a 5x7, three are 4x6's, and the smaller photo is 2.5x6 inches.

I chose a simple black cardstock background and cut a single sheet of traditional equestrian looking plaid paper in half to decorate the page.  I chose a pale yellow color from the plaid and matted the five photos on yellow.  I added chipboard brackets and a chipboard sticker, along with layered flowers.  Again, simple and easy - let the focus be on the photos.

Pages five and six were the easiest.  I had enlarges some of my photos to show details of the event.  I had four photos - an 8x10, a 5x7, a 10x4, and a 4x6.    I matted the photos on white and light blue cardstock.  The 8x10 and a title fill the first page - with a "take the jump" sticker.

Page six is a bit crowded, but I did not want to spread the "Chasing" photos over another two pages... So I squeezed it all in.  I have very few embellishments, again, because the photos are the focal point.  I felt that too many embellies distracted from the photos.

Pages seven and eight are the final two Steeplechase pages - family and friends.  And while I added a little detail to these pages, again they were quite simple.  The pages were created with a speckled navy blue cardstock base, a sheet of blue and green print cut in half, and a blue and white print.  I picked up on the green in the print to use as base matting.

The letters were cut from the M.S. Seasonal Art cartridge.  And the final embellishments were the layered flowers, in blues and whites.

And that is how you make eight quick pages of the same event using a limited number of photos to represent the overall event.  I broke the event down into phases - and scrapped two simple pages for each of the four phases.

Tomorrow I will be announcing the winner of the Custom Crops gift voucher - Not an April fool's joke!!!

Shakira There’s A He-Wolf In Her Closet

Shakira There’s A He-Wolf In Her Closet

Shakira: There’s a He-Wolf in her closet

A-Wooooo! Shakira’s only gone and got herself a new boyfriend! And judging by the salivating in the heat office, our thumbs are firmly UP.
After months of speculation 34-year-old Columbian Shakira has gone and confirmed that she is indeed A-Wooing Spanish footballer, Gerard Pique.
But instead of being all dry and releasing a statement through her publicist, Shakira whacked out this pretty picture of her and her boyfriend to the world via Twitter, adding ‘I present to you my sunshine.’ Aw! (And, indeed, Grrr!)
The singer first met her toy-boy (he’s ten years younger than her) last spring whilst she was shooting the video for 2010 World Cup song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) but denied rumblings that the two were snogging after it was said that they’d spent a night in the seven-room Hotel Atzaro in Ibiza last July.
But now, after a string of sightings of them holding hands and looking all beautiful and happy and ruddy perfect together (bitter? Us? Much?) it seems that the time is right for the pair to go public.
Having announced her split from lawyer Antonio de la Rua, 37, after rumours that he had been cheating on her in January, we’re nothing but happy for Shakira finding love again. Nothing but happy, and a little bit jealous.

James Franco - Coming To A School Near You

James Franco - coming to a school near you

Remember how amazingly annoying it was when patronising relatives used to say stuff like, ‘your school days are the best days of your lives’? (Anyone still at school – they’re not. They’re talking bare bunkem.) Well, had someone who looked like James Franco been leading the lessons – and not Mr Halitosis Harolds - we might well have been a little more persuaded.
And now some lucky ducks in New York will ACTUALLY get to be taught by James Franco, as the Hollywood actor is turning teacher and holding lectures at New York University's Kanbar Institute of Film and Television.
According to a NYU spokesman quoted in the New York Daily News, "He will be teaching a section of a third year directing class in the graduate film division. It will comprise of 10 to 12 students." Kids these days, don’t know they’re born.
"Our students will be fortunate to learn from him. We anticipate the students in his class will feel especially privileged to have him as a teacher," said John Tintori, chairman of the course.
You don’t say, Mr Tintori. Now where do we sign up?
If you'd like to have even more of a crush on James Franco watch this video of James Franco kissing James Franco.

Miley Cyrus Doesn’t Rate Internet Sensations Like Rebecca Black

Miley Cyrus doesn’t rate internet sensations like Rebecca Black

Oh dear. Miley Cyrus has admitted she isn't a fan of internet sensations like Rebecca Black. The former Hannah Montana star has spoken out against overnight internet success stories.
Miley told Australia's Daily Telegraph: "It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn't just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour."
Hold on a moment. Didn’t Miley get picked for stardom and then given her own TV show? Which was aided a bit by her dad being the country and western legend Billy-Ray Cyrus?
Maybe no-one has told Miley that Rebecca Black’s Friday is now the most Disliked video on YouTube ever. Yes more people hate Rebecca’s song than pretty much anything else on the Internet. That’s quite an accolade.
Might Miley get back together with her ex Liam Hemsworth?
Miley was definitely hinting at some sort of reuinion with her The Last Song co-star, Liam Hemsworth. She dropped his name a few times when talking to an Australian DJ (FoxFM's Jules Lund) about if he could pull off skinny jeans, "I like - like Liam, he always wears baggy jeans."
After being asked directly about Liam, Cyrus said: "We're very close. I'm not going to comment too much… but I'm definitely not coming to Australia single."
That’s not a hint that’s a giant waving flag with sparklers on it.

Lily Allen Gets A Bit Shouty Because Of Leaked Wedding Invites

Lily Allen Gets A Bit Shouty Because Of Leaked Wedding Invites

Lily Allen gets a bit shouty because of leaked wedding invites

In true form, Lily Allen has taken to twitter to vent her anger at a guest leaking her save the date card to the press.  The former singer turned fashion entrepreneur was notorious for being outspoken in interviews and her tweets.
However, she has repeatedly told the press that she wants to get out of the showbiz industry and live a quiet life in the country. Well, welcome back Lily!
She took straight to twitter this morning when she found out about the leak to deliver a very angry and very public message to the offender stating
‘Oh and whoever leaked my wedding invite to the press, you're a dick and your not invited anymore, have some respect and stay at home.’
Lily and Sam got engaged on Christmas day 2009 and Lily has recently voiced her ambition to get out of the music industry, settle down and have kids so she can live a quiet life in the country with her family out of the public eye.
It doesn’t look as though the transition will run as smoothly as she would’ve hoped, but from the look of the save the date, we’re very excited to see how this wedding is going to turn out and we’re very excited to welcome back a bit of the old opinionated Lily.

Hotels Ban Charlie Sheen

Hotels Ban Charlie Sheen

Hotels ban Charlie Sheen

If we’re being honest, we wouldn’t lend our favourite pen to Charlie Sheen, let alone a whole room with an expensive telly and white towels.
Which is why he’s finding it a bit hard to get a hotel room in New York – and has to rent a private house while he’s in the city.
He’s about to embark on the Violent Torpedo Of Truth tour around America – doing what, we’re not sure – and sources say he’s been blacklisted from several top hotels.
Last year, Charlie was accused of trashing The Plaza Hotel when it was reported he was found drunk and naked with an escort, and had caused $7,000 worth of damage.
But another source says the problem was that Charlie needs enough space to house his entire entourage, including his two ‘goddesses’ Natalie and Rachel, and likes to smoke inside, which isn’t allowed in hotels.
Yes, that’s the real problem – the smoking. Of course. The tour starts on Saturday in Detroit, and Korn guitarist Rob Patterson and rapper Snoop Dogg are due to appear onstage with him. Winning? We hopeso.

Layouts, Layouts, Layouts... And I am still behind.

I love the saying, "God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind that I will never die." (Bill Watterson)  That saying applies to me and my actual scrapbooking - in other words - LAYOUTS.  I have quite a number of photos that I have never gotten around to scrapping.

This last weekend I had the pleasure of spending three days scrapping at Lake Murray - thank you Beth and Sally.  I managed to complete 21 12x12 layouts (one of which was Buzz Lightyear).  To give you an idea of how far behind I am, I found photos from Christmas 2009 and photos from my birthday last year.  I had scrapped part of the photos, but not all.

In honor of my 50th birthday last year, my girlfriends had a birthday crop for me.  It was so fun - good friends, good food, doing what we like to do!    I had scrapped some of the birthday photos, but not all.  This is a scraptique kit modified (or as I say, "Susanized") to fit the photos.

The two page layout utilizes Teresa Collins papers - lots of pink, white and black.  And of course lots of textile textures.

I love the elements on the right page, the three file folders.  Each of the three folders opens to reveal hidden information.  The smaller two folder contain the journaling.  The larger folder contains the photo below.

If you have not already  done so be sure to leave a comment under the previous post to be elegible for the Custom Crops gift voucher blog candy.  The winner will be posted on Friday.

Tomorrow I will share how simple layouts can help you deal with multi page scrap events, while still looking nice.
